there are only a few countries on earth which provoke a comparable spectrum of conceptions and opinions as brazil. travel magazines present brazil as a promising exotic holiday resort, the media describe it as a lawless scandal-ridden ghetto of violence. i had the chance to form my own opinion about brazil during the five months of my stay in porto velho on the brink of the amazonian rainforest. one thing is for sure: brazil is a country of opposites like no other. breathtaking beauty and repulsive hideousness are unbelievably close to each other.
